“Smashing Success,” says eminent Oregon wine reviewer

In 2019, wine writer Michael Alberty heard a pair of Pulitzer Prize-winning journalists were planting a vineyard in Yamhill County. Since then, he’d been counting the days to try their wines. Now, he’s happy to report in his wine review on Feb. 5 in OregonLive.com that Kristof Vineyard wines were worth the wait.

Alberty says he “can’t wait” to pair the Kristof Chardonnay in a meal and describes the Pinot as “delightful” with silky tannins and notes of blackberries and Italian plums. He says: “The next time an ice storm hits, I’m curling up by the fire to binge-watch “Northern Exposure” with this delightful pinot noir.”

“The 2022 Kristof Vineyard Yamhill-Carlton AVA Chardonnay leads with fresh and mildly spicy aromas of Golden Delicious apples, sweet pea flowers and fresh-cut grass,” Alberty writes of Kristof Chardonnay. “The wine’s mouth-watering acidity complements flavors similar to a Honeycrisp apple poached with a bit of cinnamon stick, ginger, and butter.”

Of Kristof Pinot Noir, Alberty writes: “The medium-bodied wine is nice and smooth, with silky tannins and crisp acidity. The wine’s aromas of blackberries, Italian prune plums and sweet hyacinth are a perfect introduction to a flavor that reminds me of a marionberry scone fresh out of the oven.”
